July Play-by-Play

      by Duane Barrett, Contest Coordinator

Overview
I arrived at the field about 8:15am to find a wind blowing, bright sun, and many already there flying. We had a good turn out for the day

Weather
Weather predicted 0% chance of rain, with a high of 88 degres. Turned out to be very sunny and it got hot quickly. The wind blew rather strongly down the runway aith ocaisional shifts to cross wind gusts. We were able to do a north bound take off meaning we were racing at take off. Lap one.

T-28 Class

Heat 1:

Five pilots competing today. at the start of the race KC managed to fly his brand new T28 straight into the first plyon low and destroyed the wing. The rest of the race was uneventful with Terry lapping us during the race. The finish line saw Terry first, Duane second, Geo third and Bruce fourth. Kc was DNF.

Heat 2:

Five again, iKC brought out a back up plane. After a short trim flight check for KC we lined up again. Terry, in his normal fashion charged out in front and even managed to lap the rest of us before finishing first. Duane was second, Geo third, KC fourth, and Bruce came in fifth. Bruce is flying the latest generation of the plane and it comes completely painted and just isn't as fast as the earlier models.

Heat 3:

Again Terry first, Duane second, Geo third, and Bruce fourth. KC somehow managed to run off into the grass on take off and didn't get air born.

T-28 Wrap Up: All in all a good day there were cuts, There were crashes, but everyone had a good fun day.

Reno Class

Heat One:

There were six Reno pilots today. Rick came in first, Greg second, Terry third, John fourth, Geo fifth, and KC finished sixth. There were cuts, but I didn't get who or when written down.

Heat Two:

This was an interesting heaat. About the third lap Rick and Terry collided coming out of the south pylon. Terry ended up crashing right in front of the finish line. Rick made a large arc to north east and ended up beyond the north pole judge about 200 hundred yards out. Now both top racers are out of this heat. The finish was Greg first, John second, Geo third, and KC fourth.

Heat Three:

Out come the back up planes and the race is on again. Terry first, Rick second, John third, Greg fourth, Geo fifth, and KC sixth.

Reno Wrap Up: Some fast laps, some crashes, and some warnings for safety line violations and plenty of action on the course.
