July Play-by-Play
by Duane Barrett, Contest Coordinator
Overview
I arrived at the field about 8:00am to find three pilots already flying. Weatherman predicted only a 5% chance of rain, but we had a misty drizzle on already. By the time racing started the drizzle was gone, but the wind was about 4mph and in the wrong direction for immediate racing. We had an good turn out for today, considering it was the fourth of July and America's 250th birthday. Competition Saturday in July was an interesting day for all. Thank you to everyone who were kind enough to show up and support us today. We had about 15 people counting all the spectators and racers, maybe more.
Weather
Mostly cloudly with about a 4 to 5 mph wind blowing the wrong way
and gusting at times. But, the pilots decided to do a downwind take off with an immediate racing take off.
T-28 Class
Heat 1, Section 1:
We had seven pilots and they all wanted to race at once so we only had one section of seven today.
Terry first, John C. second, Rick F. third, Geo B. fourth, Dave H. fifth, Nick M. sixth, and Marlon H. seventh. The first take off was a busy one!
Heat 1, Section 2: No Section 2
Heat 2, Section 1: Terry first, Rick F. Second, John C. third, Geo B. fourth, Nick M. fifth, Dave H. sixth, and Marlon H. seventh.
Heat 2, Section 2: No Section 2
Heat 3, Section 1: Terry first, John C. Second, Rick F. third, Dave H. fourth, Geo B. fifth, Nick M. sixth, and Marlon H. seventh.
Heat 3, Section 2: No Section 2
T-28 Wrap Up: We had seven pilots for today's racing. Considering that we flew all seven in one heat the take offs were very busy, but all seven airborne in all three heats. In fact we had no damage or crashes all day long. We flew again today without pylon judges on the honor system and the CD's calls. Also No streamers since we had no pylon judges. Back to having more fun racing and less restrictions. I believe that everyone had a good day today. Good turn out considering the Holiday and thanks everyone for your support.
Reno Class
Heat One: Terry first, Rick second, John C. third, Geo fourth, and Nick M. fifth.
Heat Two: Terry first, John second, Rick third, Nick fourth, and Geo got a DQ for flying over the pilots. He made a good recovery and saved the plane, but flew over the line.
Heat Three: Terry first, Rick second, John C. third, Geo fourth, and Nick M. fifth.
Reno Wrap Up: With five planes flying today things were a little harder to watch everyone. There were a couple of cuts during the racing and the pilots knew so and did their penalty circuits without being told. We flew Reno also without pylon judges and on the honor system and the CD's calls, also No streamers. Thanks guys for coming out and joining the fun.
