May Play-by-Play

      by Duane Barrett, Contest Coordinator

Overview
Competition Saturday in May was clear with a slight wind out of the south. Only four of the T-28 racers showed for racing, with onle being Neil up from Oregon. Interest in racing has really declined as of late. If you missed out on the May racing then be sure to turn out in June. With ony four racers we had just 1 section of 3 heats.

Reno had two pilots show up today so there was Reno racing.

Weather
The weather was between slightly overcast and clear most of the day, with just a slight wind out of the south. There a was light wind out of the south with some mild gusts, but at least we could make a northbound takeoff. At least for the first two heats. By about 11:00 it was in the sixties. But, by then T-28 racing was over and it was on to the Reno guys.

T-28 Class
Four T-28 pilots began the race day in the T-28 class of racing that day. Kc lost a wing during practice and had to move to his backup plane. We had Rob, Neil and myself also racing.

Heat 1: Section 1, Duane took first with Rob in second and KC 3rd. Neil had a ground loop on take off and didn't fly.
Section 2, No Section 2

Heat 2: Section 1, Duane took first with Rob in second and KC had some kind of fetish with the pylon poles. He hit the south one finishing lap 5 and flew out of it only to connect solidly with the north pylon on lap 6 and spinning out of control. Too bad KC hit those pylons, he was giving me a good run for the money until then. Neil had a ground loop on take off again and didn't fly.
Section 2, No Section 2

Heat 3: Section 1, Duane took first with Rob in second and Neuil having made a successful take off finished 3rd. KC was unable to field a plane for heat 3.
Section 2, No Section 2

T-28 Wrap Up: Well I think I can say we all had fun. Even KC was smiling after his crashes.

Reno Class
Reno class had two pilots show up to fly today.

Heat One: Greg took first KC was DNF.

Heat Two: Greg took first followed by KC in second.

Heat Three: The pilots elected not to fly a 3rd heat, but to save batteries for combat.

Reno Wrap Up: We need more Reno fliers, heck we need more T-28 fliers too!
