Gate lock damage, 2022

The gate lock is being damaged due to forcing, either open or closing.

Because we’ve had so much trouble with gate locks lately we are going to try a new procedure. Let’s try this, the first person at the field will take the lock bar and the lock to the Kiosk with them. Then last person to leave will take the lock bar and the lock back to the gate and lock the gate as they leave. This will prevent any stress pressure that we may have been placing on the lock they way we have been closing the gate in the past. The last lock was actually bent somehow.

To close the lock, (1) ensure the dial is set to the numbers of the combination, (2) firmly insert the shackle into the lock case, and (3) spin the dial at least once to a random number.

If you can’t spin the dial to open the lock, push up lightly on the bar holding the lock. This will take the pressure off the lock shackle.

Never force this kind of padlock!

A big thank you to all who came out Saturday for the Spring Opener and the first Competition Saturday of the year. The weather was nice but a bit breezy keeping it feeling a little chilly. We had a good turn out and racing was fun. Unfortunately there was no combat due to lack of participants. I hope everyone enjoyed them selves.

I would first like to thank each and every one of you for your support and help over the last two years as your Captain. It has been an honor to have you let me serve you.

2021 was still a challenge with COVID restrictions in place for most of it, but we accomplish one major event, the re-surfacing of our runway. Many thanks to all that helped with that, especially to my first officer for his due diligence in seeing that through from beginning to end. Thanks a whole lot KC!

2022 was much better and actually enjoyable. There were a few issues, but we took them in stride.

As this year comes to an end and I prepare to hand the log book over to your new Captain, who is really a previous and very experienced one, KC Patton, I look forward to enjoying more flying and fun and moving on to something else. It's been fun guys and I really appreciate you all. But mostly I want to thank my board members and my first officer (KC) for their support and help. Without them I would never have been able to finish this.

On another note: As we prepare to ring in the New Year I hope and pray that each and everyone of you and your family and loved ones stay safe, healthy, and that you prosper in all that you do in the coming year. However you chose to celebrate the New Year please stay safe and healthy and have a Happy New Year! See you at the field soon.
